MONIKA PAKSTAS

Registered Social Worker (she/her)

I am here to support you in exploring the past or present issues in your life that are contributing to any current feelings of distress or difficulty. This could include a traumatic event in your life, challenging family circumstances, or ongoing feelings or behaviours that are troubling you. We can work to identify behaviours and beliefs that may not be serving
you, and to increase your confidence in handling the inevitable difficulties of life. No matter your age or how long you have been experiencing these concerns, I believe there is the opportunity for growth and learning in our work together.

I strive to create a calm, welcoming and affirming space for you to get to know yourself better and work towards feeling more grounded and peaceful in body and mind. My background in supporting people who have been impacted by sexual and/or domestic violence has shaped the way I approach therapy. I’ve been privileged to support individuals dealing with disordered eating, substance use, reproductive concerns, and parenthood, as well as anxiety, low mood, and the impacts of traumatic events. I bring an anti-oppressive and feminist lens to these issues, and incorporate Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mind-body approaches, and Narrative Therapy into my work.

I have a Master of Social Work degree and am a Registered Social Worker in Alberta. I have completed specialized training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Narrative Therapy. I have also completed training in Perinatal Mental Health, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I have received specialized supervision in clinical work with trauma and eating disorders, and completed trainings in body image from the Centre for Body Trust.
