JAN PUGH

REGISTERED PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST (she/her)

My intent is to offer you a safe space for your experiences to be heard and understood. You may be feeling misunderstood, alone, overwhelmed, or just plain tired of explaining yourself to others and yourself. My hope is that your unease can be untangled and, together, we can create a roadmap toward relief from just surviving and toward thriving. I believe that no two lives are the same. I approach my work from a person-centered, strength-based lens to center your needs as we navigate through obstacles toward a smooth and satisfying life.

My 25-year background as a Registered Nurse, and a world of life experiences, have encouraged me to acknowledge that well-being is a combination of physical, social, psychological, and spiritual factors. These experiences have increased my belief that no two lives are the same and fostered my openness to listen to and understand my clients. I have completed a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology, which further anchors my perspective on wellness from the inside out. My past experiences include supporting clients during illness in critical care areas, occupational wellness, life transitions, addiction recovery and rehabilitation, and counselling adults, adolescents, families and couples with relationship issues, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and past traumas.

I approach my clients without judgment and with an authentic welcoming of your uniqueness and inclusion of diversity, including all expressions of race, gender, religion, and sexual identity. I am also a HAES-aligned and body-inclusive therapist. I strive to maintain this openness and am always open to corrections to more accurately align with your preferences.

I have completed specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Gottman Method Level 1 for couples counselling.

I work with individual adults and adolescents 14 years old and above, as well as couples, in Alberta and Nunavut.

  • Past unresolved traumas that affect relationships with self and others, including developmental/childhood trauma, PTSD, domestic violence, and sexual violence.
  • Grief, including loss of loved ones, loss of friendship, and employment loss.
  • Anxiety
  • Mild to moderate depression
  • Marital and relationship issues, including communication and conflict and helping families navigate the transition to separation and/or divorce.
  • Medically stable eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns

I have a world of life experiences ranging from the loss of a dear loved one 4 years ago, relationship re-negotiation with life transition, parenting challenges, and fears with climate change/pandemic uncertainties. No two lives are the same and mine is no different; each stage has required strategies to be revisited and updated as conditions evolve. These experiences are a part of learning and reinforce the wise words of Nelson Mandella, “I will never lose. I either win or learn”.

I am currently available on Tuesdays from 9 am to 3 pm and Wednesdays from 3 pm to 9 pm, MT.

I am available for a free 15-minute consultation as a meet-and-greet for us to determine whether we are a good fit. My fees are $200 per 50-minute session. A sliding scale fee may be available. Please see our fees (link) section for more information.
