AMBER MICHELE SHAY

Registered Social Worker (she/her)

I have a true passion for helping people live their best lives.

In my 35+ years of professional practice I have noticed stress levels peak and reduce our capacity for resilience, which is the ability to bounce back and rise above day to day challenges. I believe that mental health support is for everyone and I am that trusted guide to co-create the best path forward with you.

I offer you an authentic and warm approach to counselling that you may find refreshing. This is based upon my core value of integrity as you share your vulnerable moments with me. I operate from a wide lens to determine the best strategies to reach your goals, which may seem difficult in the beginning of therapy.

My experience has taken me from Calgary to BC and back- having run an Alcohol and Drug Counselling Program as well as developing a Dual Diagnosis Program. I have offered supervision to the Youth Addiction Centre in Calgary as well as a non profit Family Counselling Agency. I utilize many modalities, including include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Gottman Method for Marital Couples, Grief Work, Work with Addictions, and Emotional Focused Tapping Method. I have completed two years of post graduate training through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s Degree. Prior to pursuing my Masters degree, I worked in-patient psychiatry as a Registered Psychiatric nurse for 10 years. Two years of post graduate training through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy have greatly enhanced my skill set.

I work with individuals, couples, and families of all ages (5+).

What has helped me navigate these challenges are a positive mindset best described as my belief in the body-mind-spirit connection. I have benefited from personal counselling when needed. I also have a passion for lifelong learning, which has included energy based healing and meditation. I refer to my three grandchildren as my natural antidepressants.
